LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia State University has announced the hiring of Georgia Gwinnett College Head Baseball Coach Brad Stromdahl to lead the Atlanta-based college’s NCAA Division I program.
Stromdahl, a former GSU assistant, laid the foundation for GGC’s baseball program prior to the inaugural 2012-13 year and has been the only head baseball coach in the college’s short athletic history. During those seven seasons the Grizzlies have reached the Avista NAIA World Series three times, including consecutive semifinal appearances in 2019 and 2018; won four Association of Independent Institutions titles; and registered a .759 winning percentage.
“Brad Stromdahl has been the backbone of GGC baseball since his arrival on campus in 2011. He has built our program from the ground up and has guided it to unbelievable success in seven short years,” said Associate Vice President of Athletics Dr. Darin S. Wilson. “We will miss Brad and his family and wish him nothing but the best at Georgia State. I am looking forward to the next chapter of GGC baseball. This is one of the best jobs in the country and I look forward to finding the next leader of our nationally-ranked baseball program.”
A national search will begin immediately to find GGC’s next head coach.
Stromdahl led GGC to a No. 1 national ranking during the 2016 season and the program had four seasons with 50 or more victories. He was named the A.I.I. Coach of the Year five times.
Georgia Gwinnett College’s 2019 team posted a 48-13 record that featured an A.I.I. title, winning the Lawrenceville Opening Round and advancing to the semifinals of the NAIA World Series.
GGC’s six intercollegiate sports have captured 11 NAIA national championships, won more than 1,000 games in seven seasons and won 77.5 percent of their athletic competitions.
