LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Gwinnett Stripers (13-10) allowed a season-high 15 runs in a 15-4 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens (8-14) on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field. The loss snapped Gwinnett’s six-game winning streak and gave the Stripers a 5-1 record on the homestand.
Scoring Recap: Mikie Mahtook (2) gave Toledo a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run home run to left off Kyle Wright. In the second inning, the Mud Hens chased Wright with six runs as Pete Kozma, Willi Castro, Josh Lester, and Harold Castro all drove in runs to make it 8-0 Toledo. Mahtook (3) hit his second homer of the contest in the fifth, a solo shot off Elian Leyva to make it 9-0. Victor Reyes and Chace Numata added RBI singles in the fifth to extend the lead to 11-0. Toledo added another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Reyes to make it 12-0. The Stripers ended the shutout in the eighth on an RBI double from Jack Lopez. Later in the inning, Adam Duvall (7) launched a three-run homer down the left field line to cut the deficit to 12-4. The Mud Hens added three more runs in the ninth for the 15-4 final.
Stripers Stats: Wright (L, 1-2) was tagged with the loss after he gave up eight runs on five hits over 1.2 innings. Corbin Clouse pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. Duvall went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Lopez went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and also pitched the ninth, allowing three runs on two hits over 1.0 inning.
Mud Hens Stats: Ryan Carpenter (W, 1-3) worked 7.0 scoreless, four-hit innings to record his first win of the season. Mahtook went 3-for-3 with a double, two homers, four RBIs, and four runs scored. Reyes went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Postgame Notes: Duvall has homered in each of his last four games, tallying five homers and eight RBIs in that span. Andres Blanco went 1-for-4 to extend his on-base streak to 17 games, while Austin Riley went 1-for-3 to extend his on-base streak to 15 games.
