Gwinnett limited to four hits in 6-0 loss to Norfolk

 

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Gabriel Ynoa pitched 5.0 hitless innings to lead the Norfolk Tides (1-1) to a 6-0 victory over the Gwinnett Stripers (1-1) on Friday night at Coolray Field. Ynoa and three Norfolk relievers combined on a four-hit shutout.

 

Scoring Recap:  Norfolk took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a leadoff solo home run by Christopher Bostick (1) off Bryse Wilson. In the fifth, the Tides built a 3-0 lead on back-to-back RBI singles from Zach Vincej and Stevie Wilkerson. Norfolk added three runs in the sixth against Connor Johnstone, two coming on a triple by Wilkerson, to make it 6-0.

 

Stripers Stats: Wilson (L, 0-1), making his first start since being optioned to Gwinnett by Atlanta on April 4, pitched 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out six. Johnstone worked 1.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Rafael De Paula and Jacob Webb combined on 2.1 scoreless innings. Pedro Florimon went 1-for-4 with Gwinnett’s only extra-base hit, a seventh-inning double.

 

Tides Stats: Ynoa (W, 1-0) walked two and struck out seven over his 5.0 no-hit innings. Wilkerson went 2-for-4 with the triple and three RBIs. Bostick went 2-for-3 with the homer and three runs scored.

 

Postgame Notes: Winder-Barrow High School product Travis Demeritte made his Triple-A debut for the Stripers and went 0-for-2 with two walks. Gwinnett was held hitless until a sixth-inning leadoff single by Luis Marte off former Stripers reliever Evan Phillips.
