LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Playing as the “Xolos de Gwinnett” for the third Copa de la Diversión night of the season, the Gwinnett Stripers (65-45) were shut out 4-0 by the Norfolk Tides (42-68) on Thursday night at Coolray Field. With the loss, Gwinnett dropped to 5-5 in shutout decisions this season.

 

Scoring Recap: Norfolk took a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Touki Toussaint as Mason Williams hit a two-run single and Zach Vincej added a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, an RBI double by Vincej off Wes Parsons made it 4-0 Tides.

 

Stripers Stats: Toussaint (L, 1-2), making his second start since rejoining Gwinnett on July 19, pitched 3.2 innings and yielded three runs (two earned) on five hits. Parsons allowed one unearned run on two hits over 2.1 innings. Jason Creasy and Corbin Clouse combined for 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings. Rafael Ortega went 2-for-4 at the plate.

 

Tides Stats: Chandler Shepherd (W, 1-9) worked 6.1 scoreless, three-hit innings and struck out eight. Tanner Scott (S, 5) struck out four over 2.2 one-hit frames. Vincej went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Williams went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

 

Postgame Notes: The Stripers fell to 10-23 in games without a home run this season. With a multi-hit night, Ortega has reached base safely in 93 of 104 games.
