Dear Fans,
On behalf of the Gwinnett Baseball Club and the Atlanta Braves, I am excited to introduce you to the Gwinnett Stripers! Over seven months ago, we embarked on a journey to create a new identity for the team. While we were proud to play under the “Braves” moniker for our first nine seasons, we wanted to pursue a new name that would be unique to our team only, one that would represent the traditions and history of Gwinnett County. In a process that included over 4,000 fan submissions, as well as input from the Atlanta Braves and world-famous design team Brandiose, we chose the name “Stripers.” A nickname for the striped bass commonly found in the waters of nearby Lake Lanier, Stripers is a tribute to the fishing and outdoors traditions of Gwinnett County and North Georgia. It is our goal that the Stripers identity will strengthen our ties to the surrounding community while also giving us the ability to stand out among the many entertainment options this area boasts. The Stripers logos are both fresh and traditional, introducing our new main color of “Stripers Green” while maintaining the familiar Navy and Red worn by our Major League parent, the Braves. The majestic Striper displayed on our home caps, fiercely in pursuit of a baseball-baited hook, shows the fighting spirit of our team. Our uniforms will now feature pinstripes, a timeless baseball look that ties right into our name. You can expect to see many changes at Coolray Field this season. Existing areas of the ballpark will be revamped to match our new identity. We are also excited to create new themed areas, as well as apply the Stripers identity to everything we do, including on-field promotions, giveaways and concessions items. In this time of great change, it is also important to know what will stay the same. Chopper the Groundhog, a staple of our gameday experience and beloved ambassador in the community, will remain our mascot (though he will now wear a Stripers uniform). We will continue to be the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A affiliate, starting our 10th season of play as a member of the International League. The future stars of the Braves will continue to make their way through Coolray Field, following the path of Freddie Freeman, Julio Teheran, Sean Newcomb, Ozzie Albies and many others. Our core mission will also remain unchanged, to provide the best in affordable, family-friendly entertainment to the citizens of Gwinnett County and beyond. We hope you will join us for the start of our next chapter on Thursday, April 12 at 7:05 p.m., the opening of Striper Season at Coolray Field! North Johnson |
