LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia Gwinnett College Head Tennis Coach Chase Hodges recorded his 500th career coaching victory as the top-ranked Grizzlies defeated No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan University 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies (21-0) won 24 of 29 games in doubles to grab an early 3-0 advantage.

Junior Federico Herrera Duran and freshman Daniel Czepielewski teamed to give the hosts the first point with an 8-1 triumph on the No. 2 court. Sophomore Valentino Caratini and freshman Jose Dugo also was victorious by an 8-1 score at No. 3 doubles.

Senior Ayed Zatar and sophomore Federico Bonacia rounded out the doubles winners with an 8-3 victory at the top of the lineup.

In singles, Bonacia won 12 of 13 games on the No. 2 court for the team’s fourth point of the match. Then, junior Mika Kosonen clinched the match victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

Herrera Duran recorded a straight-set victory on the No. 1 court, while Dugo (No. 3) and Zatar (No. 6) each won by 6-1, 6-3 scores. Caratini picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 4 court to round out the winners for the Grizzlies.

Hodges has guided GGC men’s and women’s tennis to nine NAIA national championships since the programs began in 2013. He has a 145-3 record leading the men’s tennis program, with five national titles.

The Grizzlies’ men have won 103 straight matches.
