LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia Gwinnett College sophomore Cam Coursey and junior Hunter Caudelle capped the 2019 regular season with strong performances to earn the Association of Independent Institutions’ final Baseball Player of the Week awards for this spring.
Coursey is the Hitter of the Week after batting .667 (16 for 24), scoring 10 runs and having eight RBI to help the No. 3-ranked Grizzlies to win four of six games in the final week of the regular season.
The Sugar Hill, Ga., native capped the week with a solo home run during Sunday’s doubleheader against the University of South Carolina Beaufort. He had eight hits in the three-game series.
Earlier, Coursey had a 4-for-4 hitting performance, with three runs scored in the opener of Wednesday’s doubleheader against A.I.I. opponent Talladega College (Ala.).
For the season, the second baseman led the Grizzlies with a .459 batting average, 57 RBI and eight triples. He also had scored 58 runs, had 15 doubles and five home runs, and stole 18 bases in 20 attempts.
Meanwhile, Caudelle earned the Pitcher of the Week honor after having eight strikeouts in five strong innings on Sunday’s opening game against the USC Beaufort. He improved to 5-0 on the season by allowing three hits and one run.
The Lula, Ga., native’s strong pitching performance helped the No. 3-ranked Grizzlies post their 40th win of the season.
The A.I.I. will present its postseason honors later this week before the conference’s championship tournament May 4-7 at Georgia Gwinnett College’s Grizzly Baseball Complex. Details about the tournament will be released soon.
