NEW ORLEANS, La. – Strong performances have four Georgia Gwinnett College women’s tennis players competing in semifinal matches within singles and doubles at this year’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Regional in New Orleans.

Top-seeded Maria Genovese is in the semifinals after the junior earned a pair of victories Saturday: 6-1, 6-0 over Lacee Ancar from Xavier University (La.) and 6-0, 6-0 against Sabrina Goetzen from William Carey University (Miss.).

Genovese’s next opponent will be sophomore teammate Tereza Koplova after the No. 5 seed rallied to defeat No. 4 Angela Charles-Alfred of Xavier. Koplova won the second and third sets by tiebreakers.

Meanwhile, junior Madeline Bosnjak had a pair of straight-set victories, including a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Xavier’s Lailaa Bashir in the quarterfinal round. Bosnjak will face No. 3 seed Elyse Lavender from Brenua University (Ga.) in Sunday’s semifinals.

The Grizzlies will have teams in both of the doubles semifinal matches. The top-seeded tandem of Bosnjak and Genovese recorded an 8-0 victory against a team from LSU Alexandria. They now will face Brenau’s team of Lavender and Peeraya Charoensirisutthikul.

In the other semifinal match will be the No. 3 seeded team of senior Gabrielle Robinson and Koplova after an 8-0 victory against Loyola University (La.). They will face a doubles team from Xavier in the semifinals.

ITA South Regional singles and doubles champions and alternates will advance to NAIA individual championships at the ITA Oracle Cup, Oct. 17-20 at Rome, Ga.
