COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia Gwinnett College women’s tennis suffered a hard-fought 4-3 loss at NCAA Division II defending national runner-up Columbus State University on Wednesday afternoon.
Singles wins by junior Emerald Able and sophomore Madeline Bosnjak squared the match, 3-3, before Columbus State won a third-set tiebreaker 7-2 on the No. 6 court to pick up the match victory.
GGC (12-1), the three-time defending NAIA national champions, was victorious in two completed doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead in the match. Able and Bosnjak teamed for a dominant triumph at the top of the doubles lineup. Then, seniors Henar Munoz and Maria Prados Cid clinched the doubles point with a win on the No. 2 court.
Columbus State (12-3) took a 2-1 lead after recording singles triumphs on the No. 3 and No. 5 courts.
Able would tie the match, 2-2, with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles. The teams split matches on the No. 1 and No. 4 courts, with Bosnjak winning in straight sets at the No. 1 position.
Then, it came down to freshman Tereza Koplova at No. 6 singles. She forced the tiebreaker after trailing 5-4 in the deciding third set.
