LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia Gwinnett College seniors Taylor Hansis and Aubree Cox have been recognized as the Association of Independent Institutions’ Softball Players of the Week.
Hansis, the Pitcher of the Week, posted a 3-1 record with a 0.34 earned run average in five appearances. In fact, she was in the pitching circle for all three wins the nationally ranked Grizzlies collected for the week.
The Longs, S.C., native had shutouts against Reinhardt University (Ga.) last Tuesday and Bryan College (Tenn.) last Thursday. Then, Hansis recorded a win against Brenau University (Ga.) during last Saturday’s special Senior Day.
Hansis tallied 15 strikeouts in 20.1 innings and held opposing hitters to a .213 batting average for the week.
Those performances improved Hansis to a 19-6 record and 1.06 ERA for the season. She has tossed seven shutouts and recorded 147 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Cox was named the Hitter of the Week after batting .533 (8 for 15) with three runs scored in the six games last week. The outfielder also was successful on all five stolen base attempts.
The Rutledge, Ga., native collected a hit in all six games, including two hits in contests against Reinhardt and Brenau.
Cox leads GGC with a .422 batting average for the season. She also has 37 runs scored, 38 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
GGC stands 35-13 on the season and closes out the regular season at home against the University of Mobile (Ala.) on Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m. at the Grizzly Softball Complex.
