LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Gwinnett College softball team has earned top seeding in the Lawrenceville Bracket for the Opening Round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ 2019 national tournament, taking place May 13-15 at GGC’s Grizzly Softball Complex. The NAIA national office announced the 40-team national tournament field on Tuesday, May 7.

The nationally ranked Grizzlies, with a 39-14 record, will play No. 4-seeded University of Rio Grande (Ohio), 34-14, on Monday, May 13.

Meanwhile, No. 2-seeded Truett-McConnell University (Ga.), 42-9, will play No. 3-seeded LSU-Alexandria, 33-14, to round out the four-team, double-elimination tournament field.

Games will continue Tuesday, May 15, before a winner is determined Wednesday, May 15.  The survivor will advance to the NAIA World Series in Springfield, Mo., on May 24-30.

GGC is hosting an Opening Round tournament for the fourth consecutive season. In 2018, the Grizzlies defeated Oregon Tech in a winner-take-all contest to clinch the program’s first trip to the World Series.

Georgia Gwinnett College won the 2019 Association of Independent Institutions softball championship last Saturday, marking the program’s third consecutive league title. The team is ranked No. 8 in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll.
