LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – For the fourth consecutive season, Georgia Gwinnett College has been selected to host one of the 10 Opening Round sites of the 2019 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) softball national tournament. This year’s event will be May 13-15 at the Grizzly Softball Complex.
The selection was announced Wednesday, April 24, by the national office. Selection was based upon geography, quality of facilities, level of the student-athlete experience, current team rating and the prospect of the host team in tournament qualification.
GGC, ranked No. 9 nationally with a 35-13 record, will be one of four teams featured in the Lawrenceville Bracket. The other three teams, along with the entire 40-team tournament field, will be released on Tuesday, May 7.
Winners of each double-elimination Opening Round tournament will advance to the NAIA World Series in Springfield, Mo., on May 23-29.
Georgia Gwinnett College won the Lawrenceville Opening Round last year to reach the NAIA World Series for the first time in program history.
The Grizzlies are scheduled to close out the regular season on Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m. by hosting No. 6 University of Mobile (Ala.) – another Opening Round host – at the Grizzly Softball Complex.
