ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men’s tennis team collected its sixth sweep of the spring season, defeating fellow NAIA team Judson University (Ill.) 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon during the program’s spring break Florida trip.
The Grizzlies (9-0) raced out to a fast start by winning all three doubles points. Sophomore Valentino Caratini and freshman Daniel Czepielewski won eight of nine games on the No. 3 court. Senior Ayed Zatar and junior Federico Herrera Duran were victorious at the top of doubles lineup by an 8-2 score. Junior Gregor Hutterer and sophomore Federico Bonacia rounded out the winners with an 8-5 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
GGC clinched the program’s 91st straight victory by gaining two victories in singles from a senior and a freshman. Czepielewski earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory on the No. 6 court and senior Rafael Coutinho got a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
The team also was leading on the remaining four singles courts. Those matches were not completed.
Judson (6-4) was receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll.
