DURHAM, N.C. – Adam Duvall stayed hot with a 2-for-3 effort including his 19th extra-base hit, but the Gwinnett Stripers (15-12) were shut down by the Durham Bulls (14-12) in an 8-2 loss Thursday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Scoring Recap: Durham took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run double by Kean Wong off Andres Santiago. The Stripers cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth as Travis Demeritte walked and scored on a wild pitch by Ricardo Pinto, but the Bulls opened a 5-1 advantage in the fourth on a three-run home run by Nathan Lukes (1) off Santiago. Elian Leyva replaced Santiago in the fourth and yielded three more runs on RBI hits from Wong, Nick Solak, and Lukes as Durham extended their advantage to 8-1. Duvall led off the sixth with a double and scored on a wild pitch from Pinto, making it 8-2.
Stripers Stats: Santiago (L, 1-2) was tagged for five runs on six hits over 3.2 innings in a spot start. He walked four and struck out two. Leyva yielded three runs on four hits over 1.1 innings. Former Bull Jordan Harrison tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, and Wes Parsons added one scoreless inning. Duvall went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Bulls Stats: Pinto (W, 1-0) allowed two runs on one hit and struck out four over 5.1 innings in relief of spot starter Colin Poche, who worked 2.0 scoreless, two-hit innings. Lukes went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, while Wong went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.
Postgame Notes: Duvall extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a first-inning single but saw his RBI streak snapped at seven games. The three hits were Gwinnett’s fewest in a game this season.
