LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – A shutout over a nationally ranked opponent in the regular-season finale propelled Georgia Gwinnett College sophomore Piper Wagner to be named the Association of Independent Institutions’ Softball Pitcher of the Week.
The Marietta, Ga., native helped the No. 9-ranked Grizzlies pick up a 2-0 victory last Friday against No. 6-ranked University of Mobile.
Wagner registered three strikeouts and had no walks as her pitching performance helped the team split the doubleheader. She scattered nine hits, but got 11 outs from ground balls to keep the Rams off the scoreboard.
The sophomore stands 10-2 on the season, with six shutouts in the pitching circle.
The Grizzlies stand 36-14 on the season and will be hosting the A.I.I. Softball Championships May 2-4 at the Grizzly Softball Complex. Details about the double-elimination tournament will be released later this week.
