LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Gwinnett College men’s tennis program has won 99 straight matches following the 2019 team’s 9-0 victory against McPherson College (Kan.) on Wednesday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility.
The program’s winning streak is the longest active stretch in all of intercollegiate athletics. The Grizzlies will seek their 100th consecutive win Tuesday, March 26, at 2 p.m. against the University of Northwestern Ohio.
GGC, the top-ranked NAIA team with a 17-0 record, won the three doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores. Then, the team also posted six singles wins in straight-set fashion.
Junior Federico Herrera Duran was a double winner Wednesday, picking up a win at No. 3 doubles with freshman Daniel Czepielewski. Herrera Duran then earned a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the top of the singles lineup.
Sophomore Federico Bonacia was also a winner in both singles and doubles, earning a win at No. 1 doubles with senior Ayed Zatar. Bonacia then won 12 of 13 games on the No. 2 singles court.
Senior Rafael Coutinho teamed with sophomore Valentino Caratini at No. 2 doubles before winning 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 3 singles court. Caratini also registered a singles win by 6-0, 6-0 scores on the No. 5 court.
Freshman Jose Dugo recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, while junior Mika Kosonen won all 12 games on the No. 6 court to round out the winners.
