LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia Gwinnett College senior Tori Robinson and sophomore Piper Wagner have once again been recognized by the Association of Independent Institutions for Softball Player of the Week honors.
Robinson, the Hitter of the Week, batted .538 (7 for 13) with three home runs and 11 RBI as the No. 4-ranked Grizzlies (26-6) went 5-1 for the week. The shortstop scored eight runs and had a 1.462 slugging percentage across those games.
The Wray, Ga., native hit three home runs during Sunday’s doubleheader sweep at Talladega College (Ala.) – two homers came in the second inning of the second contest.
For the season, Robinson has a .404 batting average and .674 slugging percentage, and leads GGC with 34 RBI. She also is among the team leaders in hits (36), runs (28), total bases (60) and home runs (4).
This is the second time this spring that Robinson has received the A.I.I.’s weekly award.
Wagner, the Pitcher of the Week, posted a 3-0 record with a 1.71 earned run average to lead the No. 4-ranked Grizzlies. She recorded 13 strikeouts in 16.1 innings during the week.
One of Wagner’s victories came against No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) last Saturday. She also had a complete-game victory against Talladega on Sunday.
The Marietta, Ga., native rounded out her strong week with a win in relief against Thomas University (Ga.) last Tuesday. She has a 9-0 record and 1.76 ERA for the season, with only 19 walks in 66.1 innings.
This is the third time that the right hander has earned the A.I.I. Player of the Week award.
