Congratulations to the Shuma Sports Player of the Week, Grayson High School varsity golfer, Evan Thompson!

Evan is a senior at Grayson where he has been a varsity golfer for two years. His story as a golfer is unique because he didn’t start playing golf competitively until 2017 after a 13-year baseball career.

Coach Ronnie Hayes says one of his favorite memories of Evan was his sophomore year. “We were playing in the Brookwood Invitational at Summit Chase. Evan was not playing that well and had about one hole to go. He was going to shoot in the 80’s. While waiting on the tee-box he says to me, ‘Coach next year I’m shooting in the 60’s’, I kind of laughed and told him, ‘Let’s try and get in the 70’s first’. That’s the kind of attitude he has had since beginning play competitively.”

Evan has very high goals that he works on daily to reach. Last spring, he won 2 of the 3 tournaments that he participated in and won his first stroke play tournament this year. Evan still has a whole spring of golf to play before graduating and heading off to the University of North Georgia.

Best of luck this spring and in your future golf career, Evan! We’ll be cheering for you!
