Congratulations to Lanier High School’s, Kalen Surles, for being named the Gwinnett Sports Commission player of the week!

Kalen is a senior basketball player at Lanier High School who averages 14.6 points per game and is a key player in the team’s success. Her coach, Tim Slater, had nothing but amazing things to say about his experiences on the court with Kalen.  Coach Slater said, “Kalen is one of the toughest, hardest working, and selfless leaders I have ever coached at any level.  She has such quiet strength and is never scared of the moment.  Every game this year we needed a big play or needed a player to step up, she did.  The three she hit late in the 4th quarter in the Region Championship game was as big a shot as I have ever coached.  She was fearless.  Her best basketball is ahead of her and some college is going to be very lucky to have her.”

Kalen has a 3.8 GPA, is a Zell Miller scholarship recipient and has offers to play college basketball from GCSU, Clayton State and Wesleyan.

Keep up the awesome work, Kalen! We’re hoping to see you play basketball and set a great example for young women for years to come!
