Dr. Darin Wilson Selected 2017-18 A.I.I. AD of the Year

 

All six GGC teams qualified for NAIA national tournaments in 2017-18

After leading one of top NAIA athletic department’s to new heights during the 2017-18 season, Georgia Gwinnett College’s Dr. Darin Wilson has been selected as the Association of Independent Institutions’ Athletics Director of the Year.

“Congratulations to Dr. Darin Wilson on winning the A.I.I. AD award. We are fortunate to have Darin’s leadership at the conference level. He has his staff at GGC do a remarkable job,” said A.I.I. Commissioner Ted Breidenthal. “Georgia Gwinnett College had a historic feat this past spring with three teams holding a No. 1 national ranking and a fourth program ranked No. 2 at the same time.”

GGC’s six intercollegiate teams reached the NAIA national tournament, including five teams advancing to the national championship round under Wilson’s guidance in 2017-18.

The Grizzlies also successfully hosted four of the A.I.I.’s 11 championship tournaments (men’s and women’s soccer, baseball and softball) during the 2017-18 athletic year.

Georgia Gwinnett College captured league titles in women’s soccer and softball. The women’s soccer championship marked the first conference crown in program history. GGC’s men’s and women’s tennis teams won NAIA national titles, bringing the department’s total to nine national championships since its first season of postseason eligibility in 2013-14.

Wilson currently serves on the NAIA’s National Administrative Council, as well as the NAIA’s Athletic Directors Association Executive Committee. He also is on the Executive Committee of the A.I.I.

Wilson is now the A.I.I. representative for the NAIA’s National Athletics Director of the Year award.
