Georgia Gwinnett College Office of Athletics Announces Licensing Agreement

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – With a growing championship brand on the rise, the Georgia Gwinnett College Office of Athletics announces a licensing partnership with industry leader Learfield Licensing Partners, as part of a campus-wide agreement at GGC.

The partnership, which went into effect during 2017, will help extend the Grizzly brand into additional retail environments while strengthening brand and logo standards.

“Our main focus with this licensing partnership is to grow the Grizzly Athletics brand,” said Dr. Darin S. Wilson, GGC Director of Athletics. “We now have a mechanism for additional companies to produce and sell officially licensed Grizzly Athletics items that are up to our program’s championship standards.”

Through the agreement, the college acquires license management, marketing and merchandising services, trademark enforcement and other legal benefits. Licensees gain access to the institution’s official art sheet for item design, and GGC has the ability to create special promotions around championship events and other celebrations.

“This agreement works toward many of our program goals as we are proud to have built a brand worth protecting over these first few years,” added Assistant Athletics Director for External Operations Ned Colegrove, who serves on the institution’s licensing committee. “Our stakeholders, including our growing fan and alumni bases, continue to want additional merchandise options to show their Grizzly spirit. We are thrilled about the opportunities that lie ahead for our program in many areas, and this is certainly one of them.”

The agreement covers all GGC trademarks including primary and secondary college logos, color processes and verbiage. Detailed market metrics help to support marketing strategies through on-campus and off-campus channels. The Office of Athletics helped establish the college-wide licensing committee, which oversees trademarked GGC property and its use.

Founded in 2012, the Athletics program at GGC continues to accumulate accomplishments on and off the field, with seven national championships through five-plus seasons of competition and a department-wide student-athlete grade point average above 3.00.

Learfield Licensing Partners, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, provides brand support services for over 600 client institutions nationwide, including many throughout the state of Georgia, as well as for professional organizations.
