Georgia Gwinnett College Men’s Tennis Sets NAIA Ranking History

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Gwinnett College men’s tennis program has been atop the NAIA Top 25 national poll 30 times, the most in the sport’s history within the athletic organization.

The most recent No. 1 ranking came in the first Top 25 poll of the 2018 regular season, released Tuesday, Feb. 13, by the NAIA national office. The Grizzlies garnered all 13 first-place votes in a poll conducted by a nationwide panel of coaches.

The 30 No. 1 men’s tennis rankings surpass the previous mark held by the University of Auburn-Montgomery.

GGC men’s tennis has been the NAIA’s No. 1 ranked team for the past 1,365 days, beginning May 21, 2014. The program has won four consecutive national championships.

The Grizzlies stand 5-0 on the season, with four of the five triumphs coming against NCAA Division II competition, including a 9-0 win at Lander University (S.C.) last week.

Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to face NAIA No. 2-ranked Xavier University of Louisiana Friday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m. to open this weekend’s Grizzly Invitational. On Saturday, Feb. 17, the team will face Point University (Ga.) and Bluefield State College (W.Va.), two opponents receiving votes in the NAIA poll.
