Congrats to Brookwood’s, Avery Freeman, for being the Gwinnett Sports Commission player of the week!
Avery is senior, captain, mid-fielder for the Lady Bronco’s lacrosse team, with a stellar performance history. She is a 2-time Gwinnett County Super Six (2016 and 2017) and in 2015, Avery was a part of the inaugural All-County Lacrosse team. She is Brookwood’s career leader in draw controls with 337, holds the school record for ground balls with 176, holds career goals scored record with 169 to-date and single season goals scored of 57 currently, along with most caused turnovers record.
When not on the field or training she can be found at one of the numerous organizations where she volunteers. She is a Girl Scout camp counselor, a youth recreation lacrosse volunteer coach, Southeast Gwinnett Co-op volunteer, and VBS and Confirmation leader at Cannon UMC. Her awards include Dual Sport Scholar athlete, Honor Graduate, AP Scholar, Peer Leader, Brookwood Leadership Team, and IDEALS Leadership graduate.
Coach Ollinger had this to say to Gwinnett Prep Sports about Avery:
“Avery is just an outstanding young woman all around in addition to being one of the strongest players we’ve ever had come through our program. While it sounds cliché, she truly does lead by example on and off the field. She honors the sport and her team through the hard work, competitive drive and positive attitude that she demonstrates every second that she is on the field. She is a leader in her school and community, and I have no doubt that she will continue to have a positive impact on her peers in college and beyond.”
Avery will continue her education at Georgia College and State University next year and we wish her all the best! We know you will do well!
