Mitsubishi Electric Classic and Gwinnett Sports Commission donate mobile golf simulator to Gwinnett County Public Library

New golf simulator will be used to help increase literacy in Gwinnett County

GWINNETT – METRO ATLANTA – Officials of the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, together with the Gwinnett Sports Commission, announced today the donation of a mobile golf simulator to the Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL).

The golf simulator will be used as a method to increase literacy through sports by giving children the opportunity to play the game of golf. The simulator will visit multiple GCPL branches with programs in place designed to introduce children to books about sports and provide incentives to read linked to extended simulator access. Mitsubishi Electric Classic ticket giveaways will also be included in the various stops made by the mobile unit.

“We are proud to partner in a program with our fantastic library system that puts a focus on literary through sports activities,” said Executive Director of the Gwinnett Sports Commission Stan Hall. “This simulator offers great incentive for students to continue their focus on reading while becoming more acclimated to the great game of golf. Education and physical activities are tantamount to the overall development of a child. This program provides both and we could not be more excited about it’s potential.”

GCPL will also have a presence in the expo area at the 2018 Mitsubishi Electric Classic, Friday (4/13) through Sunday (4/15) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fans can stop by and try out the golf simulator, as well as learn about library programs and services.

This is the first time GCPL has embarked on a literacy initiative driven by sports.

“Gwinnett Public Library is excited to partner with the Mitsubishi Electric Classic and Gwinnett Sports Commission to increase access and exposure to the game of golf, while also broadening the types of programs the library can offer the community,” said Shelly Schwerzler, GCPL’s development manager. “Thanks to the generous donation of a golf simulator, children who may not otherwise have access to golf can try it out through a series of programs being planned for multiple library branches. The library, including the new simulator, will also be set up at the tournament so children and their families can take a swing on the simulator, sign up for a library card, and learn more about library programs and services.”
